How to Use S52
In the modern church, security teams serve a vital yet often understated role - they are both protectors and servants, called to be vigilant while exemplifying Christ's love. This unique dual mission inspired "Security 52: Weekly Devotions for Church Security Teams," a resource born from my experience serving alongside dedicated volunteers who guard our church.
The genesis of this book came through a thoughtful challenge from our lead security director, who recognized that while tactical training is essential, our team's spiritual foundation is equally crucial. As we stand watch over our congregation, we must remember that we serve under God's ultimate authority and protection.
This website is structured to align with your team's weekly rhythm. Each of the 52 devotions is designed to be shared at the beginning of your security team's weekly briefing, providing a year's worth of spiritual preparation and team building. Every devotion follows a consistent format:
- A focused Scripture passage that speaks to aspects of protection, vigilance, strength, and service.
- A brief meditation connecting biblical principles to security team duties
- Practical application points for the week ahead
- A Relextion question to build team unity and spiritual awareness
- A closing prayer focusing on the team's dual role as protectors and ministers
The devotions progress through themes vital to the security ministry:
- Understanding our calling as protectors
- Balancing vigilance with compassion
- Developing spiritual discernment
- Building team unity and trust
- Serving with strength and humility
- Maintaining focus during routine duties
- Preparing for various scenarios while trusting in God's sovereignty
My prayer is that these devotions will strengthen individual security teams and serve as a resource for churches across the country as they develop and nurture their security ministries. While church security has become increasingly necessary, we must never lose sight of our primary identity as servants of Christ.
